A well-maintained pool that runs smoothly and looks crisp is always our goal since a personally owned pool is a desired dream of many. But with that personally owned pool comes many responsibilities. From old faulty heaters, to lights that need replacing, pumps, algae, and cleaning, it can be quite a bit! But the focus on this page is all about Pool Filter Cleaning.

There are varying levels of service required based on both your pool’s specific filter and the sate your pool equipment is in. For example, a cartridge pool filter is going to be one your standard pieces that can be adequately cleaned with nothing more than a hose and lubricant if it has been handled correctly. For filters that have been worn down, overused, and under maintained, it can become an overnight process to clean and can cause damage to other areas of your pool.

When assessing the state of your pool filter, it is important to note the pounds per square inch (PSI) of your pumps. The PSI will gradually rise as there becomes more blockages in your filter. If you notice rising pressure on your gauges you can either 1) Roll up those sleeves, grab your replacement filter, O-ring, lubricant ang get to work or 2) Scroll to the top of the page and give us a call. We urge you to contact us we have come across many pools that have had their filters reassembled incorrectly and not function efficiently.

On top of cleaning or replacing your standard cartridge pool filters, we can also facilitate to your backwash or D.E. pool filter needs. When we bring up backwasing, we are referring to the process of reversing the water pressure to effectively clean your filters, and not leave any floaties in your pool (or drink!) It is important to state that prevention and maintenance here are key. If diatomaceous earth or DE is in your pool be on the lookout for cartridges, laterals or grids that have sustained damage. Bad gaskets, O-rings, retainers or broken manifolds may also be your culprit here.

If you are wondering how often your typical filters should be cleaned, we recommend at least four to six times annually. Exceptions should be made for sand filters as they should be backwashed monthly and torn down every six months for cleaning. If this is all sounding like a lot of work (it is), fill out our contact form and let us take care of every need for your pool. That way, you can spend your time doing what pool owners should be doing. Enjoying your pool!
